For the fifth consecutive year, we are proud
to offer San Antonio’s most effective, intensive, and
success-oriented academic summer programs. Our
students average one and a half years academic progress
in the course of one session with us. We approach
reading from all angles: phonetic, sight-word, whole
language, and reading comprehension. Our goal
is to use each student’s individual strengths to address
his or her areas of weakness. We aim to give each
student the skills he or she needs to succeed independently.
Our programs are conducted in small groups, with
a maximum of six students per group, closely matched
by ability level to create the most conducive learning
environment. Our camps are ideal for students
with auditory processing disorders, dyslexia, attention
deficits, or who just struggle with any area of reading.
This program has four levels of instruction ranging
from emerging to advanced. Throughout the first
three levels the focus is on advanced letter sound relationships,
strengthening auditory and visual conceptualization
of letters and sounds and application of reading
comprehension and spelling strategies.
The Advanced level focuses on reading to learn by
targeting comprehension, note-taking, summarizing, and
higher order thinking skills as they relate to passages
read. Each year of a child’s school career is
more focused on reading to learn in classes including
science and social studies. Reading for information
is also a crucial skill for success on standardized
tests.
